The high-definition footage was mercilessly clear. It showed Leo standing at least three feet away from the display case holding the missing artifact—a $2 million diamond pocket watch. The boy was simply reading the artist's plaque.
Then, Richard entered the frame. The video clearly captured him bumping heavily into the display. As the glass case wobbled, Richard’s hand darted out like a snake, swiping the watch and slipping it seamlessly into the inner pocket of his brown suit jacket. A split second later, to create a diversion, he aggressively shoved the closest person to him—Leo.
It was a textbook insurance scam, and Richard had used a fifteen-year-old boy as his scapegoat.
