Two weeks later...
Hannah left the hospital carrying their tiny son.
Ryan waited outside.
Holding flowers.
She walked past him.
"Hannah..."
She stopped.
Without turning around.
"What?"
"I'm sorry."
"I know."
"I'll spend the rest of my life making this right."
She finally faced him.
Her eyes contained no anger anymore.
Only acceptance.
"You think this is about one rescue."
"It isn't."
She gently adjusted the baby's blanket.
"It's about every dinner you canceled."
"Every promise you broke."
"Every time you said 'she needs me more.'"
Ryan couldn't answer.
