The Secret That Changed Everything

Every person inside the mansion instinctively stepped aside.
The convoy doors opened one after another.
Security agents exited first.
Then came a gray-haired man in a dark suit.
No cameras.
No reporters.
Only silence.
The Minister walked directly toward Santiago.
Instead of shaking his hand...
He slapped him across the face.
The crack echoed through the foyer.
"You arrogant fool."
Santiago stared in disbelief.
"M-Minister..."
"I told you never to involve her."
He pointed at me.
The room froze.
My father slowly stepped forward.
"You know my daughter?"
The Minister looked at Ricardo.
Then something unimaginable happened.
He bowed his head.
"My deepest apologies."
Ricardo frowned.
"What game are you playing?"
"No game."
The Minister removed an old photograph from his briefcase.
He placed it into Ricardo's hand.
It showed three young men standing shoulder to shoulder nearly thirty years earlier.
Ricardo.
The Minister.
And...
A third man whose face made my blood run cold.
Santiago's late father.
Ricardo's hands began to tremble.
"I watched him die."
The Minister nodded slowly.
"So did everyone else."
"But he didn't."
Silence.
"He survived."
"No..."
Ricardo whispered.
"That's impossible."
"He disappeared because someone inside your own company tried to kill him."
The Minister looked toward Santiago.
"He spent twenty-eight years preparing for revenge."
Santiago's breathing became uneven.
"What are you saying?"
The Minister answered without emotion.
"You thought you were building your own empire."
"You weren't."
"Every company."
"Every investment."
"Every decision."
"Every step..."
"...was planned long before you were born."
Everyone turned toward the massive portrait hanging above the fireplace.
Santiago's "dead" father smiled from the painting.
Then—
The grandfather clock began to chime midnight.
One.
Two.
Three.
At the twelfth chime...
The mansion suddenly went completely dark.
Every light died.

Every security monitor shut off.
A single message appeared across every television in the house.
