Chapter 5: The Masterstroke

Julian walked through the penthouse door with a smirk that never reached his cold, calculating eyes. He held the original documents, the ones that would send Elena to prison for his crimes. "It was a good run, El," he said, reaching for her arm. But Elena didn't flinch. She stepped back, revealing a live stream projection on the wall—the entire world was watching the foundation's board meeting, where the Swiss detective she’d hired was presenting the proof of Julian's embezzlement and his faked death.

"I don't need the Serpent's Tear, Julian," she said, her voice steady, the shock replaced by ice. "Because I own the mine it came from." As police sirens wailed in the distance, Julian’s confidence evaporated, mirroring the exact, wide-mouthed disbelief she had mastered earlier. Elena Vance hadn't just outmaneuvered a predator; she had dismantled the glass cage and set herself free. The inheritance was Julian’s, but the freedom was hers.
