Chapter 3

PART 4 — The Truth Behind The Perfect Image

For three days, Adrian Vale believed he had won.

The internet did exactly what he wanted.

People who had never met Elena suddenly became experts on her character.

Business commentators questioned her leadership.

Anonymous accounts attacked her reputation.

Investors became nervous.

And Adrian watched everything unfold from his office with a glass of expensive whiskey in his hand.

He believed the plan was perfect.

He had created doubt.

And doubt was more dangerous than any accusation.

Because once people started questioning someone…

they rarely looked for the truth.

They looked for confirmation.

That was how reputations were destroyed.

But Adrian made the same mistake Chloe made.

He thought Elena was fighting to prove she was innocent.

She wasn’t.

She was waiting.

Inside Whitmore Global headquarters, Elena walked into the emergency board meeting without changing her expression.

Every executive was already seated.

Some looked worried.

Some looked uncertain.

A few avoided eye contact.

The room was filled with tension.

The kind of tension created when people didn’t know whether they were watching the fall of a company or the beginning of a war.

The chairman of the board cleared his throat.

“Elena, you understand why we requested this meeting.”

She nodded.

“Because of the accusations.”

“Yes.”

He hesitated.

“The media attention has created concerns.”

Elena looked around the table.

“I understand.”

One executive leaned forward.

“Can you explain what happened?”

Elena remained silent for several seconds.

Then she placed a small folder on the table.

“I can.”

Everyone watched as she opened it.

Inside were documents.

Emails.

Financial records.

Contracts.

But she didn’t hand them out immediately.

Instead, she looked at each person.

“I want to ask a question first.”

Nobody spoke.

“How many of you received information about me before these accusations became public?”

The room became uncomfortable.

A few people looked away.

That was enough.

Elena noticed.

“You see, Adrian made one mistake.”

She placed her hand on the folder.

“He believed creating a public scandal would make me weak.”

A pause.

“But he forgot something.”

She opened the first document.

“I don’t build companies based on appearances.”

She placed copies on the table.

“I build them based on evidence.”

The first document showed a series of suspicious transfers.

The second showed fake consulting agreements.

The third revealed hidden ownership connections between Adrian and several companies.

The room became silent.

The executives started reading faster.

Their expressions changed.

Confusion.

Shock.

Then anger.

One board member looked up.

“Is this real?”

Elena nodded.

“Very real.”

Another executive picked up a document.

“Adrian was moving company resources?”

“Not just resources.”

Elena looked directly at him.

“He was preparing to take control.”

Years earlier, when Adrian joined Whitmore Global, he appeared loyal.

He was intelligent.

Charming.

Ambitious.

He convinced everyone he believed in Elena’s vision.

But Elena had always noticed something.

Adrian didn’t admire success.

He wanted ownership of it.

He wanted the recognition.

The power.

The title.

And when he realized he couldn’t replace Elena…

he decided to destroy her.

That afternoon, Elena’s attorney contacted her.

“Adrian has scheduled a press conference.”

She smiled slightly.

“Of course he has.”

“He wants to publicly deny everything and position himself as the person saving the company.”

Elena looked at the city outside her office.

“Perfect.”

Her attorney paused.

“Perfect?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Elena closed the folder.

“Because he is going to say everything himself.”

The press conference was held at the Grand Metropolitan Hotel.

Hundreds of reporters arrived.

Cameras filled the room.

Adrian stepped onto the stage wearing a perfectly tailored suit.

He looked confident.

Concerned.

Like a man forced to speak because he cared too much.

“I never wanted this situation to become public.”

The cameras recorded every word.

“My only goal has always been protecting the company.”

A reporter raised her hand.

“Are you accusing Elena Whitmore of misconduct?”

Adrian sighed dramatically.

“I believe everyone deserves accountability.”

A carefully chosen answer.

A dangerous one.

Then another reporter spoke.

“What about the claims that you attempted to damage Ms. Whitmore’s reputation?”

Adrian smiled.

“Those are desperate accusations from someone trying to distract from the real issues.”

The audience murmured.

Exactly what he wanted.

Then the lights above the stage flickered.

The large screen behind him suddenly changed.

Adrian stopped speaking.

The room went quiet.

Instead of his presentation…

a video appeared.

The video from the jewelry boutique.

But not the one showing Chloe placing the necklace.

A different video.

A hidden recording.

One that Elena had obtained after a deeper investigation.

The screen showed Adrian meeting Chloe days before the incident.

The audio was clear.

Adrian’s voice filled the room.

“Make sure the camera stays on her face.”

Chloe responded:

“What if she finds out?”

Adrian laughed.

“She won’t.”

The room froze.

Every reporter turned toward him.

Adrian’s confident expression disappeared.

The video continued.

“You don’t need to prove she’s guilty.”

Adrian’s voice echoed.

“You only need people to believe she could be.”

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because the man who claimed he wanted truth…

had just revealed he created the lie.

Adrian looked around desperately.

“Turn that off.”

No one moved.

“Turn it off!”

His voice cracked.

For the first time, the world saw something Elena had seen long ago.

Not a powerful businessman.

Not a genius.

Just a desperate man who had lost control.

Elena watched the broadcast from her office.

Her phone received a message from her attorney.

“He’s finished.”

Elena looked at the screen.

“No.”

She replied.

“Not yet.”

Her attorney called immediately.

“What do you mean?”

Elena looked at another file sitting on her desk.

The final file.

The one Adrian never knew existed.

“The video proves he attacked my reputation.”

She opened the folder.

“But it doesn’t show why he was so desperate.”

Inside were documents connecting Adrian to something much bigger.

Something that could change everything.

Elena’s expression became serious.

“Now we find out how far he was willing to go.”

Because the necklace incident was never the real crime.

May you like

It was only the beginning.
