Chapter 15 - The Legacy Secured

The charity gala was a massive success, raising record-breaking funds for local initiatives. As the night wound down and the last of the guests retreated to their luxury suites, I took the private elevator up to the penthouse.

The suite was quiet, smelling of cedar and expensive leather. I walked over to the grand piano, running my fingers over the polished keys. I could almost hear the ghost of my grandfather playing a soft jazz melody, his sharp gray eyes watching me from the shadows.

I walked to the portrait of Arthur Sterling hanging above the fireplace. I had moved it from the lobby to the penthouse, ensuring it was the first thing I saw every morning and the last thing I saw every night.

“We did it, Grandpa,” I whispered to the oil painting.

I had proven that I wasn't just a trust fund kid playing dress-up. I had faced the absolute worst of my family’s greed and dismantled it without flinching. The Sterling Alpine Lodge was no longer a monument to Thomas’s corruption; it was a beacon of the legacy Arthur had originally intended.

I poured myself one final glass of scotch, walked out onto the expansive private balcony, and breathed in the freezing, crisp mountain air. The stars were brilliant above Aspen, shining down on the empire I had bled for, fought for, and ultimately conquered.

The wine had washed away my hesitation. The betrayal had sharpened my claws. And the Sterling name was finally, permanently, mine.
