Chapter 14 - The New EraThe grand offices of Aletheia Partners occupied the top floor of a sleek, modern skyscraper overlooking Central Park. The walls were decorated with modern art, and the atmosphere was one of quiet, purposeful professionalism.

I stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows of my office, holding a cup of warm tea.

The door opened, and my executive assistant, a bright young woman named Maya, walked in. “Mrs. Vance, the board of directors is ready for the quarterly meeting. We’ve secured the Horizon co-investment, and our new sustainable tech fund is oversubscribed by fifty percent.”

“Thank you, Maya,” I smiled. “Tell them I’ll be there in five minutes.”

I walked over to my desk, where a beautiful, silver-framed photograph sat.

In the photo, Arthur and Alexandra, now almost a year old, were laughing on a picnic blanket in Central Park. They had my dark hair and bright, intelligent eyes. They looked happy, healthy, and entirely free.

Evelyn entered the office, wearing her doctor’s coat, a bright smile on her face. “Are we ready to change the world today, partner?”

“We are,” I said, picking up my tablet.

We had taken the ruins of Adrian’s toxic legacy and turned it into a powerhouse of ethical investing. Aletheia Partners didn't fund high-risk, cutthroat startups; we invested in companies that made a difference—medical tech, renewable energy, and community development.

As we walked down the corridor toward the boardroom, I felt a deep, profound sense of peace.

The battle was over. The monster was gone.
