Headlines called her a home-wrecker, a mistress, and the woman who destroyed a billionaire wedding.
Few stories explained Ethan’s fraud.
Even fewer mentioned the board members who had ignored warnings for years.
Threats began arriving at Vanessa’s apartment. Someone painted the word LIAR across her door.
Rachel recommended moving her to a secure location because she remained the prosecution’s most important witness.
Mary hesitated.
“She knew about me.”
“Yes.”
“She helped steal the money.”
“Yes.”
“Then why should Collins Capital protect her?”
“Because someone may kill her before she testifies.”
The answer was legal and practical.
It was also morally uncomfortable.
Mary approved the protection.
Weeks later, she and Vanessa met again during a formal interview with prosecutors.
Vanessa handed over messages Ethan believed she had destroyed.
One stopped Mary cold.
