Chapter 3: The Fragile Knot

They were in the hallway now, breathless and cornered. Sarah had found the industrial-grade rope in the utility closet, a grim necessity for a plan born of pure desperation. Julian pursued them with the slow, steady gait of a predator that knows the exit is blocked.
"You think you can escape?" Julian sneered, his shadow stretching long against the sterile white walls. "This building is a fortress of my design."
Elena grabbed the rope, her hands shaking so violently she could barely loop the knot. "We have to jump," she whispered, her voice a ragged ghost. "It's the only way to get to the balcony below without being seen."
"It's suicide!" Sarah countered, though her hands were already assisting with the tension of the knot.
