The descent was a blur of shadows and sharp, jagged air. As they dangled between the floors, the rope groaned, protesting the weight of two souls clinging to a thread of hope. From above, Julian watched, his expression shifting from anger to a chilling, vacant smirk.

"You think this is about you?" he called down, his voice echoing in the shaft. "This was never about you, Elena. You were just the catalyst."

Elena looked up, the wind tearing tears from her eyes. "You monster. You never loved me."

"Love?" He laughed, a dry, hollow sound. "Love is a luxury for those who don't have to build empires. I needed a legacy. And you were merely the vessel."

Sarah looked at Elena, her expression hardening. "He’s stalling," she hissed. "He’s waiting for the security team to cycle back to this floor."

The revelation struck harder than the cold. He hadn't been trying to stop them; he had been herding them. Every step, every choice they had made since the incident on the balcony had been calibrated by him. The trap wasn't the jump; the trap was the realization that there was nowhere to land.
