Chapter 19: The New Legacy

The "Valeria-Mateo Protocol" officially became state law by winter.

Hospitals across Nuevo León were now legally required to have independent advocates for pregnant women, and financial transparency mandates were strictly enforced. Clinics that tried to manipulate patients were subjected to crippling fines and immediate audits.

Valeria was featured on the cover of a national business magazine. The headline read: The Woman Who Audited the Medical Cartel.

She framed the magazine, but she didn't hang it in her office. She hung it in the hallway of her home, right next to a finger-painting Mateo had made at daycare.
