Chapter 3 - WELCOME BACK AND THE SHADOWS OF TOMORROW

Attorney Gabriel Reyes pulled out the last folder. “Here are the charges of fraud, embezzlement, domestic violence, and conspiracy to manipulate child custody. And here is also the resolution reinstating you as president of the board, effective immediately tonight.” Security guards approached and confiscated the keys, corporate phones, and access cards from the mother and son.

The man fell to his knees before his wife. “Please, don’t take everything from me.” The woman hugged her baby even tighter. “I’m not taking anything from you. I’m just getting back everything you stole from me.”

As the guards led them both away, she spoke her last words. “In the past, I relinquished power because I believed that love was the safest home. But my father, even before he died, saw the storm coming and silently left a secret door for me to escape.” Attorney Gabriel Reyes bowed his head to her and said, “Welcome back, Madam President.”

Weeks later, silence once again reigned in the imposing main office on the top floor. The woman gazed out at the city through the large window, holding a cup of coffee while her son slept peacefully in the crib placed beside her desk. The front pages of the financial newspapers still echoed with the scandal of her husband and mother-in-law's downfall, whose trials were just beginning. Power had returned to her, and the company was stabilizing again under her firm leadership.

Suddenly, a soft knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. Attorney Gabriel Reyes entered with an unusual expression on his face, holding a sealed black envelope that was not listed in any of the original trust's files.

"Madam President, this document was just delivered anonymously to the reception desk downstairs," the attorney said, extending the envelope. "It has no return address, but it bears an old private seal that only your father and one other person knew about in the past."

The woman frowned and opened the envelope. As she slid the paper across her desk, her eyes widened in surprise at the handwriting. It wasn't a congratulatory note for her return, but a warning signed three years earlier, just before her father's death. The note read: “My daughter, the storm you faced at home wasn't a product of your husband's greed. They were merely pawns. Someone financed their initial debts to push them to seize control from you. Look for the source of the money in the hidden account of the foreign subsidiary. The true enemy doesn't yet know you've awakened.”

The woman glanced at the antique wooden box on her desk, then fixed her gaze on the city's illuminated skyscrapers. The private phone on her table began to vibrate, displaying an unfamiliar number. A cold, determined smile touched her lips as she reached out to answer, knowing the real battle was just beginning.
