The next morning, I met with my lawyer, Elena Vargas — a sharp woman I had quietly consulted six months earlier when Jackson’s temper first turned physical. She reviewed the hospital photos, my recordings, and the police report.
“You have a strong case for assault, domestic violence, and we can push for the family’s complicity as witnesses who failed to intervene,” she said. “But we need more.”
