Chapter 5: The Family Meeting

Jackson showed up at the hospital with flowers and tears, his family hovering behind him like a Greek chorus. “Baby, I’m so sorry. I lost control. It won’t happen again.”
I looked at each of them — Margaret with her entitled glare, his father avoiding my eyes, cousins and siblings who had laughed at previous “jokes” about my money.
“You all sat there,” I said quietly. “Twenty people. Not one of you moved.”
Margaret huffed. “It’s a private matter.”

I handed Jackson divorce papers. “Sign them. Or we do this the hard way.”
