Chapter 13

The morning sun broke through the heavy storm clouds,

casting a pale,

grey light over the sprawling city skyline.

I sat in the back of my armored limousine,

watching the towering skyscrapers pass by,

my mind calculating the financial ruin of my enemies.

I wore a tailored white suit,

sharp and unforgiving,

a stark contrast to the dark violence of the previous night.

Gabriel sat across from me,

reviewing the encrypted files we had extracted from the mercenary,

the bruises on his knuckles a testament to his brutal efficiency.

"The man talked,"

Gabriel confirmed,

sliding a tablet across the leather seat,

displaying a complex web of shell companies.

"He was hired by an associate of Ethan,"

he explained,

"a billionaire named Victor Sterling,

operating out of London."

I stared at the name on the screen,

my lips curving into a cold,

predatory smile.

"Victor Sterling,"

I repeated,

tasting the name,

remembering the arrogant man who had once tried to buy my loyalty.

"He thinks he can finish what Ethan started,"

I noted,

tapping the glass of the tablet,

my mind already weaving a trap of devastating proportions.

The limousine pulled up to the sleek glass headquarters of Blackwood Enterprises,

the towering monument to my corporate supremacy.

I stepped out into the crisp morning air,

flanked by a dozen armed security guards,

their eyes scanning the busy street for threats.

I walked through the grand lobby,

the marble floors clicking under my heels,

employees parting like the Red Sea as I made my way to the private elevator.

"Cancel my afternoon meetings,"

I instructed my assistant,

who hurried alongside me,

feverishly taking notes on a digital pad.

"I need the acquisition files for Sterling Holdings,"

I demanded,

"and I want a hostile takeover drafted by noon."

The elevator doors closed,

carrying Gabriel and me to the executive suite on the top floor,

the pinnacle of my empire.

"You are going to bankrupt him,"

Gabriel observed,

a hint of grim satisfaction in his tone.

"I am going to erase him,"

I corrected,

stepping out into the expansive office,

the floor-to-ceiling windows offering a commanding view of the city.

"I will buy his debts,

I will leverage his assets,

and I will crush his empire into dust,"

I said,

taking a seat behind the massive glass desk.

"By the time I am finished with him,

he will be begging to return to the shadows."

The morning was a blur of aggressive phone calls,

ruthless negotiations,

and billions of dollars moving across the globe with a single keystroke.

I wielded my wealth like a broadsword,

cleaving through Victor's financial defenses,

buying up the politicians and judges he thought he owned.

"We have acquired majority shares in his primary logistics firm,"

my lead financial officer reported over the secure conference line,

his voice trembling slightly under the weight of my authority.

"Excellent,"

I replied,

staring out at the city below,

feeling the intoxicating rush of absolute control.

"Liquidate the assets,

fire the board of directors,

and leave the company a hollow shell,"

I ordered,

hanging up the phone before he could even respond.

Victor Sterling had wanted a war of violence,

but I was fighting a war of annihilation,

a war where blood was replaced by bankruptcy,

and bullets were replaced by brutal corporate takeovers.

I poured a glass of sparkling water,

the ice clinking softly against the crystal,

a moment of pure tranquility in the eye of the hurricane.

I thought of Elena,

safe at the estate,

learning her lessons,

completely shielded from the ugly reality of how I maintained our throne.

Everything I destroyed,

every life I ruined,

was a brick in the wall protecting her future,

May you like

and I would gladly become a monster,

if it meant she could remain a queen.
