Chapter 14

The explosion shattered the afternoon silence,
a deafening roar that violently rattled the reinforced glass of my office windows.
I did not flinch,
my posture remaining perfectly straight,
as alarms began to wail throughout the massive skyscraper.
Gabriel burst into the room,
his weapon already drawn,
his eyes frantically scanning the perimeter for immediate threats.
"A car bomb,"
he shouted over the blaring sirens,
"detonated near the underground parking entrance,
targeting your primary motorcade."
"They missed,"
I stated coldly,
brushing a speck of dust from my pristine white sleeve,
refusing to show even a hint of fear.
"It was a distraction,"
he warned,
moving toward the private emergency elevator,
punching in the biometric override codes.
"They are trying to flush you out,"
he explained,
"we need to move to the secondary safe house,
immediately."
I shook my head,
my eyes fixed on the smoke rising from the street below,
a dark plume staining the bright city sky.
"I do not run, Gabriel,"
I said,
my voice a deadly whisper,
my resolve hardening into unbreakable steel.
"If we flee,
we show weakness,
and weakness is an invitation for the wolves."
I walked toward the hidden compartment behind my bookshelf,
pressing my palm against the biometric scanner,
the wall sliding open to reveal a tactical armory.
"We lock down the building,"
I commanded,
strapping a sleek Kevlar vest over my silk blouse,
the weight of the armor strangely comforting.
"We isolate the floors,
we cut the elevators,
and we trap them inside my domain."
Gabriel hesitated for only a fraction of a second,
before nodding in absolute agreement,
his loyalty overriding his protective instincts.
"Activating protocol Omega,"
he said into his communicator,
the building's defense systems instantly coming online,
heavy blast doors slamming shut across the lower levels.
I loaded a fresh magazine into my sidearm,
the metallic click echoing loudly in the tense silence of the executive suite.
"They wanted to bring the war to my doorstep,"
I observed,
stepping out into the hallway,
flanked by my personal security detail,
their rifles raised and ready.
"Let us give them a proper Blackwood welcome,"
I said,
my lips curving into a terrifying smile,
the thrill of the hunt coursing through my veins.
We moved through the darkened corridors,
the emergency lights casting eerie red shadows against the walls,
the silence broken only by the sound of our tactical boots.
"Multiple hostiles detected on the forty-fifth floor,"
the security feed relayed,
the mercenaries breaching the stairwell,
moving with military precision.
"Hold the choke point at the elevator bank,"
I ordered my men,
taking a position behind a marble pillar,
my weapon leveled at the heavy fire doors.
This was my territory,
every camera,
every sensor,
every blind spot mapped perfectly in my mind.
The fire doors burst open,
a hail of automatic gunfire tearing through the hallway,
shattering the expensive artwork,
and ripping into the plaster walls.
We returned fire,
a deafening symphony of violence,
the air growing thick with the acrid smell of gunpowder,
and the sharp tang of copper blood.
I fired with cold,
calculated precision,
watching as the masked mercenaries fell,
their bodies crashing heavily onto the expensive carpets.
I was a mother,
a billionaire,
a queen,
but in this bloody corridor,
I was the apex predator,
defending my den with ruthless,
unforgiving lethality.
"Push forward,"
I commanded,
stepping over the fallen bodies,
my white suit stained with soot and ash,
my eyes burning with an unquenchable fire.
May you like
They had dared to bring violence into my sanctuary,
and I would ensure that none of them left this building alive.
