Chapter 15

The smoke slowly cleared from the devastated hallway,

the silence returning as the final mercenary drew his last,

ragged breath.

I stood amidst the destruction,

lowering my weapon,

my chest heaving slightly from the adrenaline of the firefight.

Gabriel was checking the perimeter,

his tactical gear covered in dust,

his eyes sharp and alert.

"The floor is secure,"

he announced,

kicking a discarded rifle away from a fallen body,

ensuring the threat was permanently neutralized.

"Gather their communication devices,"

I instructed,

ejecting the spent magazine from my pistol,

the empty metal clattering loudly against the marble floor.

"I want their encryption codes cracked,

I want their GPS histories downloaded,

and I want everything sent to the war room."

I walked toward the shattered windows,

the cold wind rushing into the building,

whipping my hair across my face.

Down below,

the city was in chaos,

police sirens wailing in the distance,

the flashing blue and red lights illuminating the panicked crowds.

"They will try again,"

Gabriel warned,

standing beside me,

looking down at the sprawling metropolis.

"Victor is desperate,"

I replied,

my voice devoid of any emotion,

a calculated mask of absolute control.

"My financial attacks have crippled his network,

and this clumsy assault proves he is running out of options."

I turned away from the window,

surveying the ruined elegance of my corporate headquarters,

a temporary sacrifice in the grand game of power.

"Bring the car around to the subterranean exit,"

I ordered,

"we are returning to the estate,

and I want a full briefing on Victor's current location."

The ride back to the Blackwood mansion was tense,

the armored SUV navigating the labyrinth of city streets,

flanked by a heavily armed convoy.

I stared blankly at the tinted window,

my mind replaying the violent events of the day,

analyzing every variable,

every mistake,

every weakness.

When we finally passed through the massive iron gates of the estate,

a profound sense of relief washed over me,

the towering stone walls offering a brief respite from the war.

Elena was waiting in the grand foyer,

her small hands clutching a leather-bound book,

her dark eyes serious and unblinking.

"There was an incident in the city,"

she stated,

not asking a question,

but delivering a fact she had already deduced.

"Yes,"

I confirmed gently,

kneeling down to her eye level,

ignoring the soot and grime staining my clothes.

"But you are safe,

and that is all that matters,"

I promised,

smoothing a stray lock of hair from her beautiful face.

"Did you eliminate the threat,"

she asked,

her voice chillingly calm,

lacking the fear a normal child would possess.

"I eliminated the immediate danger,"

I corrected softly,

"but the architect of this chaos is still breathing,

and we must prepare for a journey."

I stood up,

taking her small hand in mine,

feeling the fierce,

unbreakable bond between a mother and her daughter.

"We are going to London,"

I told her,

"and we are going to teach a very wealthy man a very painful lesson."

She nodded,

a small,

knowing smile appearing on her lips,

her absolute faith in my power a comforting balm to my weary soul.

I walked toward my private quarters,

ready to wash the blood from my skin,

and prepare for the transatlantic flight that would bring me face-to-face with my newest enemy.

The game was shifting to a global stage,

May you like

and I was ready to conquer Europe,

one shattered life at a time.
