Chapter 12 – Fire at the Warehouse

Chapter 12 – Fire at the Warehouse

Fire had always been a symbol of destruction.

It consumed everything in its path.

Homes.

Memories.

Promises.

But sometimes fire did something else.

Sometimes it revealed what people were willing to protect.

And tonight, inside the abandoned Blackwood estate, everyone would discover exactly what mattered most.

The old Blackwood estate had been empty for almost fifteen years.

A forgotten piece of the family history.

Built by Victor’s grandfather, abandoned after a brutal internal conflict.

Most people believed the place was cursed.

Too many secrets.

Too many betrayals.

Too much blood.

Richard Blackwood had chosen it for a reason.

This was where the Blackwood family had begun.

And where he planned to end it.

Victor arrived just before midnight.

The rain fell heavily across the empty land.

The estate stood in darkness.

Waiting.

Marcus stood beside him.

“We have teams positioned around the property.”

Victor looked toward the building.

“Good.”

“Sir.”

Victor turned.

Marcus hesitated.

“What?”

“If something happens…”

Victor knew what he meant.

If Ethan was hurt.

If Lily was hurt.

If this became another failure.

“There won’t be another mistake.”

Marcus nodded.

Because he had never heard Victor sound like that before.

Not angry.

Not afraid.

Determined.

Inside the estate, Lily sat on the cold floor.

Her wrists were tied.

Ethan was asleep beside her.

Somehow, despite everything, the baby had stopped crying.

Because Lily was there.

She whispered softly.

“It’s okay.”

Her voice shook.

“I’m here.”

She looked at him.

“I promise.”

A slow clap came from across the room.

Richard.

“You really are impressive.”

Lily looked up.

“You kidnapped a child.”

Richard smiled.

“No.”

He looked at Ethan.

“I rescued an inheritance.”

Lily’s eyes hardened.

“He’s not an object.”

Richard laughed.

“That’s exactly why you don’t understand.”

He stepped closer.

“People like us are born into responsibilities.”

“No.”

Lily shook her head.

“People like you use excuses to justify cruelty.”

For a moment, Richard looked amused.

“You sound like Isabella.”

The name made Lily freeze.

“You knew her?”

Richard smiled.

“I knew her very well.”

A door opened.

Serena entered.

She looked nervous.

More nervous than Lily had ever seen her.

“You said everything would be simple.”

Richard looked at her.

“It is.”

“Victor knows too much.”

“That’s why he came.”

Serena stared.

“You wanted him here?”

Richard smiled.

“Of course.”

Lily immediately understood.

“This was never about Ethan.”

Richard looked at her.

“Finally.”

He walked around the room.

“Victor has always been impossible to defeat.”

“Too careful.”

“Too powerful.”

“But everyone has a weakness.”

His eyes moved toward Ethan.

“And his weakness is love.”

Outside, Victor entered the estate.

Alone.

Just as Richard demanded.

“Richard!”

His voice echoed.

“Show yourself.”

A screen suddenly turned on.

Richard appeared.

Smiling.

“You came.”

Victor stared at him.

“Where is my son?”

“Safe.”

“Where is Lily?”

“Safe.”

Victor’s expression hardened.

“If you hurt either of them—”

Richard laughed.

“Still threatening.”

A pause.

“You never change.”

“What do you want?”

Richard leaned closer to the camera.

“The truth.”

Victor narrowed his eyes.

“You already know the truth.”

“No.”

Richard smiled.

“I know the version you were given.”

The screen changed.

A document appeared.

Victor recognized it.

Birth records.

Ethan’s.

His heart tightened.

Richard spoke.

“You believed Isabella gave birth to your son.”

Victor said nothing.

“Everyone believed.”

The screen displayed another document.

A DNA report.

Victor stared.

Impossible.

Richard continued.

“But Isabella discovered something.”

A pause.

“Ethan was switched.”

The words hit like a weapon.

Victor stopped breathing.

“No.”

“Yes.”

Richard smiled.

“Your son was never supposed to inherit anything.”

Victor’s face became cold.

“You’re lying.”

“Am I?”

Richard looked pleased.

“Ask yourself why Isabella hid the diary.”

Victor’s hands tightened.

Because he didn’t know.

And that uncertainty was exactly what Richard wanted.

Inside the room, Lily watched Ethan sleep.

She didn’t care about inheritance.

Money.

Power.

Names.

She only saw a child.

A child who needed protection.

A child who had already lost too much.

“You’re wrong.”

Richard looked at her.

“What?”

“About him.”

She looked at Ethan.

“He doesn’t need a throne.”

A pause.

“He needs someone who loves him.”

Richard smiled.

“You really believe love is enough?”

“Yes.”

Lily’s answer was immediate.

“Because that’s the only thing that kept him alive.”

Suddenly—

The lights went out.

The estate fell into darkness.

Gunshots exploded outside.

Victor’s team had entered.

Richard cursed.

“He came early.”

Serena panicked.

“You said he would come alone!”

Richard grabbed her arm.

“He did.”

A cold smile.

“But he never said his men wouldn’t.”

Chaos erupted.

Security teams rushed through the building.

Richard’s men fired back.

The old estate became a battlefield.

Victor moved through the halls.

Every step brought him closer.

Every second felt too long.

Then he heard it.

A baby crying.

“Ethan.”

He ran.

The nursery door burst open.

Victor saw Lily.

Saw Ethan.

Saw the man holding a weapon near them.

Everything inside him went silent.

Not anger.

Not fear.

Instinct.

The man raised the weapon.

Victor moved faster.

The shot fired.

But Victor had already pushed Lily and Ethan down.

The bullet hit the wall.

Lily looked at him.

“You’re bleeding.”

Victor ignored it.

“Take Ethan.”

She hesitated.

“Victor—”

“Now.”

She grabbed Ethan.

For a moment, their eyes met.

And Lily saw something she had never seen before.

Fear.

Not for himself.

For them.

The fight continued.

Richard escaped toward the lower floor.

Victor followed.

They reached the old storage area.

Richard turned.

“You still don’t understand.”

Victor aimed his weapon.

“Understand what?”

Richard smiled.

“This family was always built on secrets.”

A pause.

“And you were never the chosen one.”

Victor stepped closer.

“You’re wrong.”

“Am I?”

Richard pressed a button.

The building alarm activated.

Then came another sound.

Gas.

Victor’s eyes widened.

“You’re going to burn it.”

Richard smiled.

“Everything must be destroyed before something new can begin.”

The fire started instantly.

Flames spread through the old estate.

Victor grabbed Richard.

“You’re insane.”

Richard laughed.

“Maybe.”

He looked toward the burning building.

“But I’m not the one who lost everything.”

Upstairs, Lily carried Ethan through the smoke.

The fire blocked every exit.

Her lungs burned.

Ethan cried weakly.

“It’s okay.”

She coughed.

“We’re getting out.”

But the flames grew closer.

Then—

A shadow appeared.

Victor.

He came through the fire.

“Lily!”

She looked up.

Relief filled her eyes.

“You’re alive.”

Victor reached them.

“Give me Ethan.”

She handed the baby over.

Then the ceiling cracked.

A massive piece of burning wood fell.

Victor pushed Lily away.

The beam struck him.

“Victor!”

He collapsed.

For a moment, Lily forgot everything.

The fire.

The danger.

The escape.

She only saw him on the ground.

The man everyone feared.

The man who had always seemed impossible to break.

Broken.

She pulled with all her strength.

“Wake up!”

Victor opened his eyes.

Barely.

“You need to leave.”

“No.”

“Lily.”

“No!”

Her voice broke.

“You saved us.”

A tear fell.

“Let me save you.”

Something changed in Victor’s expression.

Because nobody had ever said that to him.

Nobody had ever chosen him.

Together, they escaped through the burning hallway.

Outside, security teams rushed toward them.

Marcus ran forward.

“Sir!”

Victor handed Ethan to him first.

Always Ethan first.

Then he collapsed.

Hours later, firefighters controlled the flames.

The old Blackwood estate was destroyed.

Richard was gone.

Serena was missing.

And Victor lay unconscious in the hospital.

Lily sat beside him.

Refusing to leave.

The doctors told her he was lucky.

But she knew better.

Luck had nothing to do with it.

He survived because he had something to return to.

At dawn, Victor finally opened his eyes.

The first thing he saw was Lily.

The second thing he heard was Ethan crying softly nearby.

He tried to move.

Lily immediately stopped him.

“Don’t.”

Victor looked at her.

“You stayed.”

She smiled sadly.

“Of course I stayed.”

A quiet moment passed.

Then Victor whispered:

“Thank you.”

Lily looked surprised.

“For what?”

Victor looked toward Ethan.

“For saving my family.”

But neither of them knew…

The fire had destroyed the estate.

It had destroyed Richard’s hiding place.

It had destroyed years of secrets.

But it had not destroyed the final truth.

Because somewhere in the ashes…

Someone had found what Richard was searching for.

A document.

A final piece of evidence.

And when Victor discovered it…

May you like

He would finally learn the truth about Ethan.
