CHAPTER 1 – THE WHISPER

CHAPTER 1 – THE WHISPER
No one dared breathe loudly.
The rain pounding against the chapel's stained-glass roof became the only sound remaining.
Emily lay in the coffin, her face as white as wax.
Her eyes were half-open, but still fixed on the man standing before her.
Jonathan.
Her husband, who had been sobbing just seconds before.
Now, he was no longer crying.
Emily squeezed the maid's hand.
"Please... don't let him come near."
The maid, Clara, instinctively stood in front of the coffin.
"Everyone step back!"
A doctor among the mourners rushed forward.
"Let me examine her."
He took her pulse.
The entire room waited.
"...Her heart is still beating."
A murmur erupted.
"How is that possible?"
"She's dead!"
"The doctor himself signed the death certificate!"
Jonathan took a step back.
"Emily... I don't know what I'm saying."
Emily stared at him.
Her cracked lips trembled.
"You... locked me up..."
Jonathan shook his head.
"She died from lack of oxygen."
"She was buried alive and lost her mind."
A few people began to nod.
It sounded plausible.
But Clara didn't.
She bent down.
Emily slipped something into her palm.
A piece of paper.
Soaked in blood.
Then Emily fainted.
...
The ambulance sped away in the rain.
Jonathan insisted on going with her.
Clara refused.
"No."
"I'm her husband!"
"And she just begged me not to let you touch her."
Jonathan clenched his fists.
The polite smile on his face vanished.
Just for a second.
Then it returned.
"Okay."
"We'll talk later."
He turned and walked away.
But before getting into the car,
He looked at Clara.
That look sent a chill down her spine.
It wasn't the look of someone who had just found their wife.
It was the look of someone who had just lost a secret.
As the ambulance disappeared from the cemetery gate...
Jonathan took out his phone.
He only said four words.
"She's alive."
On the other end of the line...
May you like
Someone answered.
"Then let's end this."
