CHAPTER 5 – THE MAN IN THE MASK

CHAPTER 5 – THE MAN IN THE MASK

Footsteps grew closer.

Click...

The heavy iron door swung open.

White light shone down into the dark basement.

Emily held her breath.

A man entered wearing a gray protective suit, his face concealed by a medical mask.

In his hand was a silenced gun.

An older woman immediately stood in front of Emily.

"She doesn't remember anything."

The man didn't reply.

He raised his gun.

Emily squeezed her eyes shut.

Bang!

A dry, sharp sound rang out.

But the bullet missed her.

It went through the ceiling light.

The basement plunged into darkness.

"RUN!"

The woman shouted.

Emily dashed forward in the darkness.

The sound of footsteps chasing her echoed through the tunnel.

She didn't know where she was running to.

She only knew that if she stopped...

...she would truly die.

Her hand touched a wooden door.

Emily turned the doorknob.

Locked.

Behind her...

The sound of a gun being loaded.

"Click."

Emily desperately banged on the door.

"Please!"

There was no answer.

Just then...

A hand from inside suddenly pulled the door open.

Emily tumbled inside.

The door slammed shut.

A metal bar was locked across it.

The man outside banged loudly.

BANG!

BANG!

BANG!

The person who saved Emily put a finger to his lips.

"Shhh."

"Don't let him know there's someone else here."

Emily looked at the person in front of her.

It was...

A boy about fifteen years old.

Thin.

His face was covered in dust.

But what stunned her...

was that the boy knew her name.

"Finally awake, Emily."

Emily recoiled.

"Who... are you?"

The boy bowed his head.

"My name is Noah."

"I've been locked up here for three years."

May you like

"And you..."

"...are not the first victim."
