CHAPTER 8 – THE RECORDING

CHAPTER 8 – THE RECORDING

At the end of the hallway was a control room.

The camera screen was still lit.

Noah closed the door behind him.

"Hold on for a few minutes."

Emily still clutched her head.

She looked around.

Hundreds of numbered video tapes.

E-01.

E-02.

E-03...

Until...

E-17.

Her name.

Emily's hands trembled as she inserted the tape into the player.

The screen flickered for a few seconds.

Then the image appeared.

It was a white room.

Emily appeared on the screen.

But not today.

It was six months ago.

She was sitting in a chair, her hands bound.

Opposite her was...

Dr. Harris.

He smiled.

"Emily."

"Do you remember what you saw?"

Emily on the screen replied in a weak voice.

"I saw..."

The image suddenly distorted.

Interference.

Then it continued.

"...Jonathan killed someone."

Emily on the screen gasped.

"No..."

Dr. Harris remained calm.

"And who was it?"

Emily on the tape sobbed.

"It was..."

Just then.

BANG!

A bullet pierced the screen.

The television exploded.

Shards of glass flew across the room.

Noah screamed.

"They're here!"

The steel door shook violently.

CRASH!

CRASH!

CRASH!

Jonathan's voice rang out from outside.

"Emily."

"I know you're in there."

"I don't want to hurt you."

"Just open the door."

Emily recoiled.

Tears streamed down her face.

If the tape was real...

Jonathan wasn't a grieving husband.

He was a murderer.

But...

Who was the victim?

Before she could think any further...

Another voice came through Noah's walkie-talkie.

"The north exit is open."

"Inspector Daniel has entered the facility."

Emily looked up sharply.

"Police?"

Noah shook his head.

"Not necessarily."

Emily frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Noah looked straight into her eyes.

"Here..."

"...not everyone wearing a badge is a good person."

At that moment, the electronic lock clicked.

Beep... Beep... Beep...

The steel door began to open from the outside.

Emily grabbed a broken iron bar from the floor.

Noah turned off the lights.

The entire room was plunged into darkness.

The gap in the door widened little by little.

A figure carrying a gun entered.

Emily raised the iron bar, preparing to attack.

Then the person whispered very softly:

"Don't hit."

"I'm Daniel."

"And I only have one minute to get you two out..."

May you like

He paused, looking directly at Emily.

"...before they find out I've never been a police officer either."
